Our Clinical Approach

Physiotherapy at Cohesion is guided by structured assessment, ongoing reassessment, functional goals, active care, education, and manual therapy when clinically indicated.

Physiotherapy Built Around Function

At Cohesion, care begins with understanding your symptoms, movement, goals, and functional limitations. Treatment is guided by physiotherapy assessment and reassessment over time, so your plan can be adjusted based on how you are responding.

Depending on your presentation and goals, care may include education, exercise, movement retraining, manual therapy, home programming, and strategies to improve tolerance to daily activities, work, sport, or recreation.

A Structured Approach to Care

Assess

We begin by identifying relevant symptoms, movement patterns, mobility, strength, activity limitations, and goals. Where appropriate, functional markers are used to help track change over time.

Treat

Treatment may include education, exercise, movement retraining, manual therapy when clinically indicated, and strategies to improve tolerance to daily activities, work, sport, or recreation.

Progress

Care is guided by reassessment and adjusted as you improve. The goal is to support better function, confidence, independence, and long-term self-management.

Manual Therapy When Clinically Indicated

Manual therapy may be part of physiotherapy care when it has a clear clinical purpose. It may be used to help reduce symptoms, improve movement tolerance, address joint or soft tissue factors that may be contributing to movement limitations, or support the transition into active treatment.

At Cohesion, manual therapy is used as one part of a broader care plan. Depending on your needs, treatment may also include exercise, education, movement retraining, and home strategies to support progress outside the clinic.

Active Care and Self-Management

Active care is a central part of physiotherapy at Cohesion. Depending on your condition and goals, treatment may include mobility work, strengthening, balance training, gait or movement retraining, return-to-activity planning, and home exercise programming.

The goal is to help you build confidence, improve function, and develop strategies you can use outside the clinic.

Education That Supports Recovery

Understanding your condition and treatment plan is an important part of physiotherapy. Education may include guidance on activity modification, symptom response, exercise performance, pacing, posture, movement habits, and strategies for daily activities, work, or recreation.

We aim to help patients make informed decisions and participate actively in their care.

A Team-Based Model

Cohesion is developing a team-based model of care where physiotherapists and other members of the care team work within a shared clinical approach. This helps patients receive care that is structured, consistent, and appropriate to their needs.

Depending on your concern, goals, location, language preference, and provider availability, care may involve different members of the Cohesion team.

What Patients Can Expect

Patients can expect physiotherapy care that may include:

  • discussion of symptoms, history, goals, and functional limitations
  • physical assessment and movement-based testing where appropriate
  • explanation of findings and treatment options
  • reassessment of meaningful changes over time
  • active treatment, education, and home exercise strategies
  • manual therapy when clinically indicated
  • progression toward independence and self-management

Is This Approach Right for You?

This approach may be appropriate if you are looking for physiotherapy care that is structured, goal-oriented, and focused on improving movement, function, confidence, and self-management.

If you are unsure whether physiotherapy is appropriate for your concern, our team can help direct you to the most suitable available provider or recommend that you seek medical care first when needed.
